The Nobleman with a Pipe
An artisan nativity figure in the 18th-century Neapolitan style
A figure of strong character, inspired by the elegance,
theatricality, and narrative liveliness of the great
18th-century Neapolitan nativity tradition,
depicted with a poised, refined, and aristocratic air.
Particular care has been taken with the sartorial attire,
crafted from silk and fine velvet and embellished with
passementerie, braid trim, buttons, and decorative details.
A distinctive element of the piece is the pipe, crafted
from briar wood, featuring a resin-coated stem and a silver chain—
a true miniature that complements and defines the character.
The cane, made of beech wood, is adorned with
silver ornaments and a brass ferrule.
The balance between gesture, costume, coloring, and accessories
makes this Nobleman a figure designed not only to be
placed in a nativity scene but also to be admired
independently as a collector's piece.
